Taiko is a musical tradition with deep roots in Japanese culture.  Taiko (太鼓) are a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. In Japanese, the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (和太鼓 “Japanese drums”) and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko (組太鼓 “set of drums”).

Taiko at El Marino

The Taiko drums used in our classes were made by a very dedicated group of parents years ago. The size of the class is limited to the number of drums we have.

Due to the increased number of students who are staying in Taiko, openings for Taiko begin in the second grade.  The child starting in second grade would then move on to the intermediate and advanced classes in third through fifth grade (occupancy allowing).
